Compounding solutions one step at a time

Compounding can be the solution when medications or a particular strength you need are not available or when you are looking for an easier way to administer medicine. Compounding allows you to avoid routes that are not necessarily beneficial to the patient. For example, if you have pain in the elbow, it can be treated with an anti-inflammatory topical such as ketoprofen. It provides another way to treat pain instead of taking an oral NSAID such as aspirin.  Oral rinses can be created to incorporate multiple agents such as antibacterials, anesthetics and antifungals.  Bio-Identical Hormones can also be combined into a capsule, cream or pellet based on your individual needs. Another benefit is avoiding the number of “fillers” added to medications. These fillers are called inert ingredients meaning they are not suppose to cause you any problems. However, the inactive ingredients could contain sugar, metal, lactose, starch, dye, and other agents which could cause an issue in some patients.

Compounding Professionals

Compounding combines an ageless art with the latest medical knowledge and state-of-the-art technology. It requires specially trained professionals to prepare customized medications. A compound can involve using several ingredients and requires knowledge about each one when combining them. What’s in your compound?. Compounding is a very involved process and takes time to prepare. Training and equipment is a key factor in how well compounds are made. Our facility is setup to focus on compounds that range from an oral rinse to a sterile injectible drug.  Our staff undergo frequent training in both compounding and sterile techniques to insure a quality compound is made each time.

Many of the medications we make are prepared in dosage forms that are not commercially available. The dosage forms can include  transdermal gels, troches, lollipops, pellets, or even injectibles.  We can develop medications free of problem-causing excipients such as dyes, sugar, lactose, or alcohol. May of the compounds we produce are combinations of several medications  in a single dosage form.  This allows for easier administration and helps reduce the amount of pills you may have to take in a day  We invite you to come visit with us, and speak with one of our pharmacists today.
